Qualified Personnel

AWS can supply and source competent personnel from its database of sub contractors for small to medium size work scopes. Our key operatives all have previous experience working directly for both the leading WTG manufacturers and owners. We can provide technicians with various disciplines electrical/ mechanical with full offshore certification required for work in the wind industry.

When combined in a joint venture with Axiom we can supply up to 20 individuals from various disciplines who have extensive experience gained in the offshore Oil and Gas sector. We believe this joint venture approach offers clients a broader knowledge and skills base to assist them in their offshore campaigns.

Paintwork Services

Whilst contracted to E.on Climate and Renewables, in a consultancy role, designed to assist the construction project management team at the Robin Rigg offshore project,  AWS were tasked to provide an audit of monopile paint damage of all 60 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) before handover to the O&M phase.  Upon audit completion AWS were commissioned to rectify the coating defects to the required criteria of the client. This involved the utilisation of rope access techniques and detailed planning of painting schedules against LAT tide levels to maximise the productivity of technicians on site and to minimise the client’s liabilities regarding tide and weather constraints. Consequently the work package was delivered within the predicted timescale of the client.

Structural

• Annual or biannual periodicity

• 100% close visual inspection of all welded connections

• NDT cross checks (Ultrasonic to assist with corrosion assessment and Eddy Current to detect fatigue cracking of weld)

• Particular emphasis in landing areas

• Tightness / Torque check of bolted connections as / if applicable

• Evaluation of coating condition using Ri/C scale assessment (BS EN ISO 4628-3) – coating thickness checks as appropriate

• Note of any mechanical / impact damage – preparation of method statement and cost / time requirements for repair

Offshore Structural and Mechanical Inspection and Maintenance

AWS in conjunction with Axiom NDT Services can now offer structural topside (DNV 0S-J101: 2011 / BS EN 61400-3: 2009) and lifting equipment inspections. An overview of this service is described below.

Confined Space Access and Rescue

AWS supply technicians who are fully certified to work offshore in a confined space rescue role. We have proven track record in this area, supplying all associated safety and rescue equipment and RAMS.  Clients have utilised our previous industry experience to assist them in their document control and monitoring procedures, using our staff in an NCP capacity thus reducing their own manpower commitments.

Internal Monopile Inspections

Working at the Robin Rigg Offshore site, over the last four years, AWS has gained extensive experience, relating to the industry wide problem of grouted connection fatigue and potential load bearing issues. We can provide surface preparation technicians and also NDT inspection personnel to assist the client in their monitoring and auditing schedules.

Service Support

We can support clients with quality manpower in their service and retrofit requirements. We have major manufacturers training in Megawatt Turbines both on and offshore.
